Sangla Valley – Kinnaur (Himachal Pradesh, India)

Sangla Valley is a part of district Kinnaur , Himachal Pradesh , India. The beautiful valley is located 215 kms from Shimla and 580 kms from Delhi.Sangla is surrounded by forested slopes and offers views of the high mountains. The valley is known for its breathtaking beauty and if you happen to visit it during winters, the snow covered Sangla valley is a sight to behold. Sangla is the major town in the valley with all the basic necessities including ATM’s, Petrol pump, Guest houses and medical facilities. The little village of Sangla is situated on a slope with houses rising one above other. Mount Kinner Kailash stands tall on one side while river Baspa flows one the other. Sangla valley has quietly emerged as a favorite destination among nature lovers who would like to spend the days without the hustle-bustle of crowded tourist places.

What to do:

Chitkul is a picturesque about 26 kms , 1 hr drive from Sangla. It is the last inhabited village near the Indo-Tibet border. The village lies on the Banks of Baspa river at an aprox altitude of 3450 mtrs.

Kamru Fort: There is a famous Kamru Fort just 3 kms from Sangla and is believed to be 1000 year old. It is considered to be one of the oldest forts in Himachal Pradesh.

Batseri Village : Do visit the local devta temple in Batseri village to see an example of magnificent hill architecture.

Rakcham Village : The village is located on the right banks of Baspa river. Take a nice and relaxed walk up to village or spend your day beside the Baspa river.

Angling: If you like angling you can get a permit from fisheries department here. If you are lucky you might well get rainbow or brown trout.

Sangla Kanda: A 10 kms trek can also be undertaken from Sangla. The path is gradual uphill hike on the left bank of Baspa valley lead to Sangla Kanda a Magnificent meadows offering, a panoramic view of Kinner Kailash Range.

How to get there

By Air : Nearest Airport is at Jabarhatti, 22 kilometres from Shimla. You can then hire a taxi to reach Sangla from here.

By Train: Nearest railway station is at Shimla 215 kms away. You can then hire a taxi / or get on a bus to reach Sangla.

By Bus: You can board a direct bust to Sangla from Delhi ISBT Kashmiri Gate however but it is advisable to take a bus to Shimla rest for a bit and then take a bus to Chitkul. Delhi – Shimla ( 8-9 hrs). Shimla – Sangla (9-10 hrs)

By Car: Delhi – Shimla – Narkanda – Rampur – Karcham – at Karcham you leave the main road (NH22) going to Recong peo and turn towards Sangla Valley. (580 kms)
